WASHINGTON – Low-income students who attend urban public high schools generally do just as well as private-school students with similar backgrounds, according to a study being released Wednesday.
Students at independent private schools and most parochial schools scored the same on 12th-grade achievement tests in core academic subjects as those in traditional public high schools when income and other family characteristics were taken into account, according to the study by the nonpartisan Center on Education Policy.

Or, why is it so horrible for a teacher to want to teach in one as opposed to state/public schools? What is so magical about the public school system?

When being established, were Oxford and Cambridge University state-chartered/state-funding schools(what we call “public schools” in America)? Or were they independent schools(private schools) in the first place?
When did Oxford and Cambridge become state-funding(public) schools respectively?
*state-funded* I mean.

I really have a passion for teaching but with today’s climate in schools, it is not possible to be motivating and challenging. Teachers have their hands tied and I’m sick of being constanly harassed and bullied by foul mouthed hoodlums. I would like to start my own independent school (absolutely NO FUNDS FROM THE GOVERNMENT). How can I do this. I’ve always dreamed of going into business for myself.

I want to plow your wife asked:
Republicans keep claiming it’s possible to provide a superior private school education for only $5000 per year -without religious or other backing-, but where are the schools? If they already have plans put together, the demand would be overwhelming, if they can turn a profit doing that then they don’t need to wait for a government handout in the form of vouchers.
$5000 per year? They’d have a waiting list that went on for years.
So where’s the proof of concept? Where are these $5000 private schools? Of course, they must realize that if they’re claiming they can’t do it because of competition from private schools then that pretty much nullifies their argument about free-market competition and an abundance of players in the market preventing “Cost-Creep”. If they can really do this at a profit then competition from public schools should be practically irrelevant.
So tell us, where are those independent private schools running on $5000 per year while still managing to turn a profit and produce graduates with test scores superior to public schools?
competition from public schools then that..typo.
You see what I think, I think the $5000 number is bogus and Republicans know it, but they’re hoping to use that number to spark enthusiasm and they’ll front-load services and burn through their venture capital until they can get a critical mass of communities that will adopt such a model, that’s when the massive degradation of service quality, increase in tuition rates and $32 million dollar executive salaries begin. The end result of allowing Republicans privatize education would be annual expenses of $50,000 per student for schools that are no better than the public schools we have now.
